My shot at the pumpkin topiary and some sparkle sent off in the mail

DIY Day @ ASPTL

SO MANY of you wonderful DIY'ers have done some version of a Pumpkin Topiary or using Pumpkins in various super cute arrangements and it made me just HAVE to try it myself.

I started out with three different sized craft pumpkins from Michaels, one unused styrofoam pot in our garage, and I was off!

Un-used pot before

After a shot of good 'ole black spray paint
I still thought it needed something so I added another shot or two of some bronze paint which hopefully you can see in the final shot. I picked up some of these babies at JoAnn's.

I chose four different leaves and put a small piece of tape on the back of each which held the leaf in place while I traced around them on the pumpkin. The tape came right back off so I can use the leaves again in another project. I thought the orange of the pumpkins was a little off so I touched them up with a bit of paint, raided my Permanent Botanicals and here it is!

I wanted to have some twinkle lights inside the pumpkins but didn't want to see the cord so I made a quick fabric tube of some black ribbon tule I had on hand and slid that onto the lights. I am a major pine cone freak so they got added on near the moss, I included some raffia, some sparkly fall Permanent Botanicals and a bit of grape vine to top it all off.
I'm really pleased with how it all turned out and even BSP loved it. In fact, he'd like me to do another one. One for each side of the front where this one has found it's home. Thanks so much to all of you super crafty Bloggers! You guys have really inspired and re'freshed the DIY'er in me!
As a final touch, I thought I would show you how the gray sparkly curtains turned out that I made for my niece which I "bemoaned" about here.

I found the beaded fringe that I added to the bottom on clearance at Joanne's. I hope my niece likes them. I hung them on BSP's office door just to get a good shot of them which is why they don't go to the floor but hopefully they are the perfect fit for Amanda's windows and perhaps they will keep her smiling during those long hours of study during her Sophmore year at College. You go girl!!

Oh, this is great! Do the pumpkins just sit atop one another or how do they stay together? What an ingenious idea to use the leaves to cut out the pumpkins ... love it! Thanks for sharing.
