Tempt My Tummy Tuesdays

I am always on the hunt for new and exciting recipes so Tempt My Tummy Tuesdays is great way to do that. Be sure to check out all of the yummy posts!

Fudge Nut Bars
Ingredients for the "Bars" part of the recipe
1 C. Butter
1 C. Packed Brown Sugar
1 C. Sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 C. Flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
3 C. Quick Oats (I have used both Quick Oats as well as regular and have observed no difference)
Ingredients for the "Chocolate" part of the recipe
1 C. Sweetened Condensed Milk (NOT Evaporated Milk)
12 Oz. package of semi-sweet morsels (I prefer the mini-morsels.)
2 Tbs. butter
1/2 tsp. salt
1 C. Chopped Walnuts (I leave these out)
2 tsp. vanilla
Cream the butter and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla. Add the remaining dry ingredients and set aside.(Original recipe call for flour, soda and salt to be sifted together and then added. However, I add them all at once and have never had an issue.)
In a saucepan over low heat, combine the sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips, butter and salt stirring until melted. Add the vanilla and nuts (if used) and remove from the heat.
Spray a 9 x 13 cake pan and preheat your oven to 350. Take the oat mixture and spread about 2/3 in the bottom of the pan. (Remember you need to reserve the remaining mixture for the top!) Next, pour the chocolate mixture over the top and spread out. Finally, take the remaining oat mixture and drop in random spots onto the top of the chocolate.
Bake for 20-25 minutes.
This is a recipe that was handed down from grandmother, to mother, etc and is always a sure fire hit! (I used this recipe for a Wednesday's Walk not too long ago because it's such a good memory
AND I just made these on Sunday to get ready to ship out to my F.I.L. in Alaska.)
