North! To Alaska!

I'm really glad Lynette chose to continue with Wednesday's Walk ! (Thank you Lynette! I know it's time consuming but I really do enjoy it and it gives us so many opportunities to get to know our fellow Bloggers!)  Be sure to start here and perhaps you'll be inspired to participate too!

I decided to share this memory today because we are headed back to Alaska next week Tuesday. BSP's brother Joe is getting married and BSP is a groomsman! So why not share about my first Alaska experience?!

Several years ago, (I think it was either 2004 or 2005) BSP took me to Alaska to meet his family for the first time. ALASKA!!!! I was SO excited!! How many people get the chance to say they've been to Alaska?!

Well, it was everything I had ever dreamed it would be and yet so much more. There are no words for how VAST Alaska is. It just goes on as far as the eye can see and beyond. The mountains, glaciers, valley's and yes, even the Cities are different.

I ate more than I ever have in my entire life. BSP's folks had a cook-out one night while we were there and his dad put Salmon on the grill. I went back 5 TIMES!! And his dad actually said "Sorry Lisa. It's last years catch but we haven't gone yet this year". (How much would I have eaten if it had been the current years catch?!)

We went in June and it never got full dark, just a deep twilight. But I would be lying to say that affected my sleep. I slept all the time! Whenever there was an opportunity to rest, I took it! The air in Alaska is different from anything we have here in the lower 48 and it just calmed me and I slept so soundly!

We got to do and see so many wonderful things. We walked on Glaciers and visited others, we went to Homer and fished for Halibut. We saw puffins, seals, whales, eagles, moose and NONE OF THEM WERE IN A ZOO! We visited the MuskOx Farm (did you know that Musk Ox are an ancient species that has survived through thousands of years?) and even after everything we managed to squeeze into our visit, we barely scratched the surface of Alaska.

I'm going to tell you all the same thing I tell everyone else. If you've ever dreamed of going to Alaska, DO IT! PLAN IT! FIT IT IN! BUDGET FOR IT! It's a trip you will never, ever regret!

I hope to one day go to visit Alaska! It sounds wonderful and I love to sleep when it's cold. I live in Phoenix, go figure. But I do sleep in air conditioning. LOL.

Thanks for visiting Heart Choices. I always enjoy meeting new blogging friends.

Lisa I enjoyed your post about Alaska. The pictures were great.

I don't know if I will ever get to go there or not, but my oldest daughter and her husband got to take an Alaska cruise one time and they loved it.

My oldest brother Ronnie and his wife and son used to live there when I was a kid. Any picture I have ever seen has been beautiful!

Thanks for joining in today. I am glad that Lynnette is continuing with Wednesday's Walk too. I enjoy reading my blog friend's posts. And it is such a good way to keep memories alive!

Have a good day!

Sounds like a fantastic trip! I've always thought it would be fun to go to Alaska, but mainly because I'm so curious about the daylight factor--that would be so interesting! I've always had a fascination with ice, and love the cold weather too, so next to Antarctica, I think this would be the place to go. heehee. ;)

Thanks for sharing!

That sounds like so much fun! I used to work with a lady who moved to Alaska and I still write her every now and then. My girls ask me when we are going to go visit my friend in Alaska. :) I need to, huh?!

I would love to visit Alaska - although I'm not much for the cold weather. I'm sure it's beautiful.

How funny that you went back for more and more and more...food. Must have been the change of climate, hee hee.

Thanks for sharing!
