Our first annual get away trip to the Black Hills

The Black Hills of South Dakota is very near and dear to our hearts. In fact we are hoping and planning to retire in the Custer, SD area in 10 years, God willing. It's only 5 hours from our home and an easy trip to make. Here we are standing in front of a sweat lodge at Crazy Horse mountain. Here's how the mountain looks today. It didn't appear to have changed much since our last visit but once you go inside and hear the story and discover how long and how costly the process is, you think differently about the progress.

I'm sure I've been to Mt. Rushmore at least half a million times, however they've recently added a walking path that takes you very close to the faces. From this vantage point, you can see across much of the Black Hills.

We always stay at The Roost in Custer, SD. Frank & Susan, the owners, are the best and we wouldn't stay anywhere else. We stayed in Cabin #6 four years ago and we requested that one this time too. Unless it's already spoken for, it will probably always be our "cabin of choice"!
